the quarter @ degraves st., melbourne

One of the best ways to start a day in Melbourne is to have breakfast at Degrave Street. The two cafes which I seem to alternate between is 'Degraves' and just next door to it 'The Quarter'. The latter was my destination of choice this trip to Melbourne and here are a few pics to show you how lovely breakfast was.

Flat white coffees. A flat white is my coffee of choice, no sugar, and The Quarter certainly serves up a fine coffee to kickstart my day.

We're at table number 5, near the bar and counter area inside. There's booth seating at the back (which they tend to save for tables of 4 - yes, I did try to get the booth seat but was told that we were only a table of 2. Trust me, when there is booth seating, I'll most certainly try to get it!) There's also seating outside for those that prefer it (but I find the outdoor seating a little too cramped for my liking).

Salmon Benedict. Hollandaise sauce is probably one thing I'll never get around to making at home, especially when The Quarter do such a fantastic job with it!

No matter how long J peruses over the menu, asks for my opinion, in his mind he's always set on the Big Breakfast which he always ends up ordering. I guess most boys like the value for money - and this was certainly a whopper of a big breakfast!

Aside from not getting the booth seating (I watched it for the whole time we were there and no one even sat in it!), breakfast was lovely and service friendly. It was particularly relaxing for J&I as it was a Friday and usually we would've had work but instead we were in the comforts of Melbourne enjoying a relaxing and lengthy breakfast. What more could you ask for?!

I prefer booths too. They are a lot more intimate and spacious.

I tried to make hollandaise sauce once... it turned out like scrambled eggs!

I love eating breakfast out. Its so chic.

I agree on so many levels! Booths: so much cosier. Big breakfasts: great value. Hollandaise: not sure I wanna go there...just yet =p Esp when everything looks as great as it does here!

love a good coffee, not that I'm much of a coffee drinker, but the aroma is just hypnotic

the breakfast looks fantastic =)
I'd certainly prefer a booth over any other seating arrangement, so much cosier. You're funny how you watched over the booths lol

Out of all those café's down that stretch, I'd say Lorca is the best. Whips up a French Toast enough to blow away any ennui.
