What I call the GM sized pieces of sushi - Look at it in proportion to my face! Perhaps a little too much rice but it did also mean very large pieces of salmon sashimi to top them.
One of their specials which the lady at the next table took interest in once it got to our table. It was a Smoked Salmon Roll topped with Capers and fresh Mango pieces. It does sound a little strange when you read it on the menu but it's not bad - the word to describe the taste I'd say is 'refreshing'.It was the arrival of the 'Sushiya' Hotpot that the lady next to us commented on how much food we'd ordered. This was the last thing to come and both J&I were a little shocked - the hotpot was only $25 and could've feeded 4 in itself. J claims he ate about half a chicken.
Needless to say, we were stuffed afterwards - and whilst I'd been perusing the dessert menu for the entire night (they have some nice desserts there!), I really couldn't fit it in. That second stomach I usually have for desserts was full and wasn't going to let me eat anymore. Boo! Next time!

that hotpot looks quite big :)
the first time i went to sushiya i had no idea it's sooooo far away from chatswood westfield. hehe. it was like "are we there yet? are we there yet?"
it was massive! but at the same time quite nice and value for money - i actually want to go back there and try their other one - which from memory was butter flavoured and had fish head in it. mmmm...
i think everytime i've gone to sushiya, we've always driven and parked on the side streets - it's much closer and yes, if you're walking, it's extremely far from the station!
i have been meaning to go to sushiya again after I read your post. Finally!!! But the hotpot seems to have disappeared :(
from memory it's not on their main menu - i have a feeling it's one of their winter specials? anyway, come winter - we can go check it out! hopefully the butter flavoured hotpot with fish head will be there for me to eat!
My hubby & I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. He just said its one of the best Japanese resturants! hehehe. We've been regularly returning here for the past 3 years & have enjoyed the experience. The eel in the rice box is my fav. The eel just melts in your mouth, so delicate. My hubby's fav is the karaage chicken. Our most fav would have to be the clamp noodle soup - wow this is SO SO good. A hint of heat from the chilli and the delicate flavours of the clamps makes this soup dish a must for all. Exceptional portion sizes that dont break the bank nor the budget should you want a good hearty meal under $20pp. Last but not least the ice cream - green tea/ black sesame/macadamia are the best AND in generous portions too. Yes the resturant is small and therefore always crowded, however it's worth the wait. The service too could be better, considering how busy this little restaurant is its reasonable.
